Disney World Coaster Closure Takes New Turn After Vehicle Found Stranded Mid-Ride
An unusual scene inside Toy Story Land may finally offer a clue about why one of Disney’s Hollywood Studios’ most popular attractions has been closed for days.
Slinky Dog Dash entered September 2 without operating for the third consecutive day. Disney has not publicly announced what caused the extended shutdown, nor has the company provided a timeline for when guests can expect the roller coaster to reopen.
However, something spotted inside the attraction is raising new questions.
A Slinky Dog Dash ride vehicle was seen sitting unusually positioned near the coaster’s second launch. Nearby, an electrical panel was open.
While Disney has not confirmed the two things are connected to the shutdown, the situation raises the possibility that crews could be dealing with an electrical or ride-control issue.
Slinky Dog Dash Has Been Closed for Days
The current problem began on August 31, when Slinky Dog Dash remained unavailable throughout the operating day.
The attraction didn’t return September 1.
By the morning of September 2, the coaster was still unavailable, officially extending the unexpected shutdown into a third consecutive day.
Disney has not explained what went wrong.
That lack of information has made the situation particularly interesting because Slinky Dog Dash typically experiences temporary closures like other major Walt Disney World attractions. A shutdown lasting multiple full operating days is a different situation.
Now, there may be another piece to the puzzle.
Ride Vehicle Spotted Near Second Launch
BlogMickey spotted a Slinky Dog Dash vehicle stopped around the second launch while visiting Hollywood Studios.
The positioning of the vehicle was noteworthy.
Rather than sitting where a train would normally be positioned during regular operation, the vehicle appeared to have stopped farther back within the launch.
BlogMickey suggested the positioning could point toward an E-stop.
An E-stop is a safety function designed to stop a ride when the system detects a problem. However, there has been no confirmation that an E-stop occurred in this situation or exactly what could have triggered one.
That distinction is important.
The stopped vehicle alone doesn’t tell us why Slinky Dog Dash has been closed for three days.
What was sitting nearby makes things more interesting.
Electrical Panel Seen Open Near Vehicle
An electrical panel near the second launch was also open.
The panel appears to contain equipment connected to ride controls and communications, which could be accessed when maintenance crews are attempting to diagnose a problem.
Again, Disney hasn’t confirmed an electrical problem.
An open panel isn’t enough to conclude that electrical equipment caused the extended shutdown. However, when combined with the unusual position of the ride vehicle and three consecutive days of downtime, it provides a potential clue about what maintenance crews could be investigating.
BlogMickey also reported that there did not appear to be much activity around the area during its morning visit.
That leaves plenty of unanswered questions.
Disney Still Hasn’t Said When Slinky Dog Dash Will Reopen
Perhaps the biggest mystery is how long the shutdown will continue.
Disney hasn’t announced a reopening date, and there has been no official explanation for what caused the problem.
Slinky Dog Dash could potentially reopen quickly once crews resolve whatever issue has kept it offline. But until testing begins and Disney returns the attraction to operation, guests shouldn’t assume the coaster will be available during an upcoming Hollywood Studios visit.
After three days, this has moved well beyond a routine temporary closure.
The stranded vehicle and open electrical panel may provide the strongest clues we’ve seen so far, but neither confirms exactly what happened.
For now, we know a Slinky Dog Dash vehicle has been sitting unusually positioned near the second launch, an electrical panel nearby has been opened, and one of Hollywood Studios’ biggest rides remains closed.
