Marvel Confirms Shocking ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Cast Expansion, Russo Brothers Tease

Marvel Studios already assembled a staggering collection of stars for Avengers: Doomsday (2026). Somehow, the studio still has more names to reveal.

The original cast announcement brought together Avengers, Fantastic Four members, X-Men, and other familiar faces from across Marvel history. Even then, some obvious names were nowhere to be found.

Now, directors Anthony and Joe Russo have confirmed that those omissions shouldn’t necessarily be taken as evidence that certain characters won’t appear.

Marvel hasn’t announced everyone yet, and new footage tied to Doomsday is already giving fans a better idea of who could be next.

Marvel Never Gave Us the Full List

The massive Avengers: Doomsday (2026) cast rollout happened in March 2025.

Instead of releasing every name at once, Marvel used an hours-long livestream featuring chairs marked with the names of actors joining the movie. By the end, Marvel had assembled characters from several different corners of its universe.

Yet the size of the announcement also made certain absences stand out.

Mark Ruffalo was one of them.

Ruffalo has portrayed Bruce Banner/Hulk since The Avengers (2012), and he played a major part in both Avengers: Infinity War (2018) and Avengers: Endgame (2019).

His name never appeared during the original Doomsday reveal. Recent footage, however, has made that omission considerably more interesting.

Hulk Just Entered the Doctor Doom Story

Avengers: Endgame Encore (2026) provided additional material connected to Avengers: Doomsday (2026).

One scene features Bruce Banner encountering Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom.

That doesn’t amount to a traditional cast announcement for Ruffalo, but it certainly appears to indicate his return in Doomsday. Marvel has now directly placed Banner alongside the character expected to sit at the center of the upcoming crossover.

And the Russos aren’t shutting down speculation about additional characters.

They’re doing the opposite.

Anthony Russo Confirms More Names Are Coming

Anthony Russo addressed what fans were seeing while discussing the new Ruffalo material.

“The pattern that you’re sensing is real,” Russo said. “We have absolutely not announced the entire cast. There is more to come.”

Suddenly, Marvel’s enormous March 2025 announcement looks more like the beginning than the final word.

Another scene from Avengers: Endgame Encore (2026) adds to the intrigue.

The rerelease extends Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) and Peggy Carter’s (Hayley Atwell) dance scene. This time, Loki (Tom Hiddleston) eventually arrives and knocks on their door.

Those additions offer more connections as Doomsday prepares to continue Marvel’s Multiverse Saga.

Some Huge Names Are Still Missing

Once Marvel confirms that its cast announcement wasn’t complete, it’s difficult not to look at who remains absent.

Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man is one possibility after Marvel brought legacy characters into Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021).

Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool and Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine could also potentially become involved following Deadpool & Wolverine (2024).

Several longtime MCU characters remain outside the announced lineup as well.

Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye, Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange, and Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff could potentially appear. Marvel hasn’t confirmed their involvement, so all three remain speculation.

The same applies to Maguire, Reynolds, and Jackman. Russo’s comments confirm additional cast members are coming, but they don’t tell us who those actors will be.

Marvel Already Has Plenty of Star Power

Even without those potential additions, Avengers: Doomsday (2026) has an enormous ensemble.

Doctor Doom (Robert Downey Jr.) stands at the center of the massive crossover, giving the longtime Iron Man actor a completely different MCU role.

Shang-Chi (Simu Liu), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Captain America (Anthony Mackie), Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), Ant-Man (Paul Rudd), Shuri (Letitia Wright), Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan), Red Guardian (David Harbour), M’Baku (Winston Duke), U.S. Agent (Wyatt Russell), and Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen) are among the other announced characters.

Then there are the X-Men.

Professor X (Patrick Stewart), Cyclops (James Marsden), Magneto (Ian McKellen), Gambit (Channing Tatum), Nightcrawler (Alan Cumming), Beast (Kelsey Grammer), and Mystique (Rebecca Romijn) are all joining the movie.

The Fantastic Four are part of the crossover as well, with Invisible Woman (Vanessa Kirby), Mister Fantastic (Pedro Pascal), The Thing (Ebon Moss-Bachrach), and Human Torch (Joseph Quinn) representing Marvel’s First Family.

Marvel Still Has More Surprises

The confirmed Doomsday cast would be impressive even if Marvel stopped adding names today.

According to the Russos, it hasn’t.

Bruce Banner’s appearance alongside Doom gives fans one major clue about where Marvel could be heading, while the other missing characters leave plenty of unanswered questions.

Not every rumored hero will necessarily appear.

But after Marvel’s latest footage and Russo’s confirmation, one thing is clear: The final Avengers: Doomsday (2026) cast is bigger than the lineup Marvel originally revealed.
